PLANNING PRODUCTION

Planning production
For my planning production I have been asked to make detailed decision on the following things:
my front cover image
the cover lines for my front cover
the text I will include in my content’s page.
The images I will need for my contents page
the article I am going to write for my double page spread, and the photographs I’m going to take.
My front cover image I want is a close up shot of either the celebrity(s) I am going to interview or the model I am going to use if I am not able to get a celeb here our a few example of the shot I want, used by other magazines
the type of shots used on these front covers is similar to what i want my model to be like, I have used fashion magazines, to show what i want my model to be similar to in my magazine.

These images only show the face and the top of the neck, this is what I will base my front cover image on. However I don’t not know who will be featured on the cover yet.

SCHOOL MAGAZINE EVALUATION

my school magazine front cover and contents page follows the form and conventions of a typical magazine.
It contains a masthead at the top to show the title and could also show the genre of the magazine, also the main image on the front of the magazine is one person. This person is surrounded by feature titles to show the reader what is inside the magazine. this could also show the genre of the magazine. my front cover also contained the issue number which was number 1 this could show that it is a fresh new magazine, however it could also show how established the magazine is and if it is successful or not.. It also shows the price and a bar code. In my opinion my magazine could challenge the form and conventions of a magazine as school magazine are not sold in a newsagents however they are sold in the school.

On my contents i also used the form and conventions such as having columns to break down different sections in the magazine such as 'charity' and 'clubs'  and a masthead at the top of the page indicating it was the contents. i also used a bold font to make the page numbers clear. I also used action pictures connoting a article such as 'Weatherhead's new restaurant' i took a picture of the cafeteria and placed a page number on it to show what page it would be placed on.

The new media technologies that i used to construct my media project was adobe photo-shop and quark express i used the the different software to have an understanding of how different they could be and what similarities and differences they have.
i used photo-shop to create my front cover, which i have used before to create different magazines for projects in school. photo-shop allowed me to open pictures and edit them and also to create titles and had a variety of different fonts to use. you could also cut out photo's in photo-shop and put them on a different background which i thought was helpful.I used quark express to create my contents this however i have never used but i thought it was similar to photoshop i could also create titles, However it couldn't cut a photo and put in on a different background or edit the pictures also there wasn't a variety of different fonts to use which i thought was disappointing. However it was better than photoshop to create a contents as the columns paced on the page helped alot.

My strengths and weaknesses of both my front cover and contents page were; in photoshop even though i have used it before i forgot how to create certain things or forgot what button did what on the tool bar, which i thought slowed me down. however when i got used to photoshop it was really easy to use, and personally i thought it was easier than quark express which at the start was difficult to use and confused me alot. However once i was shown how to create a title and to move things around i slowly got to understand quark express and could be as easy as photoshop to use.

Overall i think i have done quite well on my preliminary task, and any errors that i have made such as not saving my work properly can help me in my main task to make sure i dont do it again. I will also be alot quicker in quark express and photoshop as i have had practice and got used to the software's.

PRODUCTION OF SCHOOL MAGAZINE AND FRONT COVER

Tuesday 28 September 2010

PRELIMINARY EXERCISE

In today's lesson we started our coursework which involved creating a front cover and contents page for a school we had to create plans for our front cover
Title
-firstly we had to choose a title for the school  magazine i choose to use alliteration because i though it was quite catchy and decided on the title 'the star school' or 'the star pupil' i haven't decided which title i would like to use yet.
Details of the mis-en-scene
for my mis-en-scene i wanted one 6th former working i haven't decided on what type of camera shot i would like to use yet but i think the over the shoulder shot is the best shot when taking a picture of someone working.
However i also like the idea of having a younger year student playing in the playground as this can connote the fun you can have in the school i will use a long shot showing the head to the toe.
Cover lines for the front cover of your magazine
"new school menu!"
"BIG DANCE"
"Barcelona year 12 trip"
"outstanding GCSE results!"
"tune in for all new ice factor!"
"BIG SING"
" sneak preview of Beauty and the BEAST"
i think these cover lines are interesting and will catch the targets audiences eye.

CAMERA ANGLES

over the past few lessons we have been looking at  different camera angles and in Monday's lesson we had to get into groups of three and take a camera around school and take a variety of different shots
